There is no STEM, without STEAM...

In 1972, Steve Jobs took a calligraphy class at Reed College. This class so inspired him that many years later while designing the first Apple computer he put all that love and artistry for typography into his work. Since Windows computers at that time copied everything Apple did, today all computers have the ability to craft beautifully designed books, papers, posters etc.. So from one art class in typography the world has benefitted greatly. In a world dominated by ones and zeros, we all owe Jobs a debt of gratitude for bringing creativity into the world of technology.

Many Colleges, and Universities, have all different types of jobs, and offer free classes. Harvard, for instance has almost 20,000 employees.

The Massachusetts Commonwealth Dual Enrollment Partnership (CDEP) provides opportunities for Massachusetts high school students to take college-level courses for free or at a discounted price and earn credit toward high school completion and their future college degrees.

Dual Enrollment - Most community colleges, and some private colleges, will admit you in a dual enrollment program even if you don't have a high school diploma.

Dual enrollment tuition is even less than regularly low community college tuition.

Once you have accumulated some credit at a community college you can transfer to a university without ever having finished high school. Transferring is very easy compared to applying to college the traditional way.

Needed: A New Rehearsal Space for Democracy

Teaching ethics can not only help students become better decision-makers, but it can also help develop crucial academic and social and emotional competencies. Ethical decision-making is a crucial part of comprehensive education, but few schools teach ethics, writes Linda Flanagan, advisory board member for the The Ethics Institute at Kent Place School, in a recent KQED Mindshift piece. Introducing ethical dilemmas in the classroom can open up opportunities not only for debate and critical thinking, but also for personal growth, empathy for other viewpoints, and self-reflection.
Effective ethics instruction is about more than distributing a list of moral guidelines; it requires teaching students how to navigate their own moral decision-making.
